PROCYON TRUETUBE SERIES PROTOTYPE

IGAXE KINDE Model HXQ-1P

Dual channel/mono block audio amplifier utilizing a pair of EL84/6BQ5 pentodes. Preamp and phase inverter tubes are a 5879 and a 12AU7. All are vintage new-old-stock. Front panel has an input gain potentiometer with an RCA phono jack. This version has no tone block. Output is approximately 10 watts at 8 ohms.

Comes withVARI-BUS OMNIVALVE 5 tube regulated power supply;

very stable and smooth.

 

The PROCYON TRUETUBE SERIES: Model PRIZM 8417A-P1

This prototype utilizes a pair of uncommon 8417 beam power pentodes in class A mode. The output power for this design is rated at 50 watts. The output transformer is a Mercury O45RS-L. The tube compliment includes a 12AX7 phase inverter, a 12AX7, and a 7025 configured as stage preamplifiers. The power supply is an adjustable series regulated three tube set, a 5AR4 rectifier, 13GF7 dual triode, and a OB2 voltage regulator. The power transformer is a Hammond 270HX. Dual Input options configured as a direct input to power amp bypassing tone-block and other conditioning circuits. This proto produces a very unique sound with great clarity. This amplifier is coming soon in rack mount form and as a power head in a custom case. Watch for it. The Engineer/Shaman, Little Bear, at Aural Magic is resonantly aware that the true merit of a finely tuned instrument not only tantalizes the ear but also enlivens all of our senses as well as those little understood. This is where the “Magic” comes in. He astounds people with his ability to create inimitable effects units from vintage tubes that have been long forgotten. For him vacuum tubes are a pure electronic art form. In fact, he is always coming up with incredible one of a kind effects units that will blow you away. They are not all featured on this website because as soon as he makes one someone comes running to buy it.

Little Bear is always working on new designs and concepts and inventing things. He just can’t help himself! He is a true master with forty years of electronic engineering experience. He enjoys digging around in his vast store of old new stock of wonderful electronic treasures from the early to mid- twentieth century to create all kinds of fascinating instruments. For example, he has created a tube preamp that utilizes vintage metal tubes from the late 30's and 40's. The circuit concept was taken from radio gear that was used in the bombers that were often aloft during the years of the Second World War. These tubes were rugged and long lasting and when now used as preamplifier tubes engineered in “tone blocks” they selectively roll off about 8 decibels of the bass frequencies, creating a very unique flat, bright sound that enhances voice. The sound is like the bright sound that radio engineers preferred in the early days of radio broadcasting. Other preamplifiers he has designed produce audio qualities reminiscent of the sound produced in intercom systems in the cockpit and interior of a B-17 bomber.

There are many that once they acquire one of our effects units find themselves putting their other preamps, amps, stomp boxes, distortion pedals, and guitar pedals in the closet. Our vacuum tube preamp, they declare, is all they need.
